Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday, July 1, how Charley Louise Wright, 23, of Garden Crescent, South Normanton, was captured on CCTV stealing the cheese and meat from a My Local Store in South Normanton.

Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said: “The store manager was made aware of the theft on June 15 and looked at CCTV footage and describes seeing a female entering the store just before 4pm. She filled a basket with cheese before walking down a different aisle and putting items in a bag and left without paying.

“Similarly, more CCTV footage showed an incident on June 19 where a female enters the store and went to the fridge and puts items in a basket and transfers them to her handbag.”

A Police Community Support Officer viewed the CCTV footage and identified Wright who had already been fined on June 7 for stealing hair groomers from B&M Bargains, in Alfreton, in May.

The court previously heard how staff had also seen Wright during the B&M Bargains offence picking up hair groomers, putting them in a bag and leaving without paying.

Wright was arrested after the My Local Store offences in June and admitted these thefts to police and said she had needed to steal to fund a drug habit. She pleaded guilty to the two cheese and meat thefts committed on June 15 and 19.

Defence solicitor Rob Sowter said: “There is a drug issue. She is with Addaction but more intervention is required.”

Magistrates adjourned the case until July 5 to consider a probation report. Wright was sentenced to a 12 month community order with rehabilitation, drug rehabilitation and a Thinking Skills Programme.
