Cubs and scouts in the Ripley area have had an action-packed couple of weeks.

The 1st Ripley Scout Group enjoyed themselves when they journeyed to Blackpool to take part in the National Scout Car Races.

Many members took part in the event on July 4, where they raced around a 400-metre track against scouts from all over the country.

After the racing, everyone went into Blackpool for a look around.

Section assistant Micheal Hawley said: “Next year the event is going to be held in York and the scouts can’t wait to race again.”

Cubs from 1st Sitwell Scout group were taken out for fish and chips as a thank you from the leaders for going to the district St George’s Day parade.

Meanwhile, the 3rd Codnor Cubs went camping at Drum Hill, where they took part in shelter building, pioneering and walking.

Leader Adrian Bell said: “We also toasted marshmallows on the open fire, which the cubs really enjoyed.”
