John Flamsteed Community School’s Readathon event got pupils reading for
pleasure and raising more than £650 for charity.

The Denby school completed the sponsored read this month, raising money for seriously ill children.

Pupils rose to the challenge, reading hundreds of books and also earning the school library free books provided by charity Readathon, in partnership with Scholastic Book clubs.

Readathon, a nationwide charity, uses the sponsorship money to support carefully chosen charities who help seriously ill children and their families.

Headteacher Danny Holden said he would recommend the scheme to any school.

He said: “To get so much from one easy-to-run activity, and then be awarded free books on top, makes Readathon a truly unique campaign – everybody wins.”
