TWO BUSES taking pupils to and from St John Houghton Catholic School have been ordered off the road after police safety checks.
Nine buses were checked in total and six defects were found.
Of the two handed prohibition notices, one had an emergency exit door that officers deemed to be difficult for children to open and the other had a piece of metal protruding from the roof which vehicle inspectors said posed a risk to standing passengers.
VOSA representatives joined police for the checks earlier this month.
Roads Policing Insp Adam Waterfall said: “It’s pleasing to see that 65 per cent of the vehicles checked were in good working order but firms need to make sure their vehicles are defect-free and roadworthy at all times.”
