A company director of a Ripley firm is set to saddle up for a mammoth 400-mile charity cycle ride from Paris to Nottingham next month.

David Steeples, 53, from jewellery labelling firm Magpie Europe, of Hall Road, and two other dog lovers will cycle from Paris to
Nottingham, in the Paw De France event in aid of Team Edward a group which fundraises for Labrador Rescue and
numerous other dog charities up and down the country.

The objective of Team Edward is to help labradors which, through whatever circumstances find themselves in need of a new home and to raise as much money as possible through various fund raising efforts, with the aim one day, to become a registered charity in its own right.

None of the members
taking part in the challenge have cycled professionally so they can expect a tough test.

The challenge, imaginatively titled ‘Paw De France’ will see the group leave from outside the Eiffel Tower in Paris, on Good Friday, April 18, with the
target of reaching Nottingham’s Market Square on Easter Monday, April 21, three days later.

David, who owns two black
labradors, Lacey and her mum Tara, said: “I used to
cycle when I was younger, but haven’t cycled for more than 30 years.

“When I was asked to join Team Edward it was the
perfect excuse to treat myself to a new bike and get back in the saddle.

“The training has been hard work, but I’m getting there, my first 85-mile ride was a personal achievement for myself. I’ve had dogs all my life and I couldn’t think of a more deserving cause to raise
money for.”
