QUIZ night fans from Ripley have handed over £1,000 to the town’s community hospital.
Each year, for the past 25 years, the general knowledge fans who take part in quizzes at the Pear Tree pub in the town have collected £1,000 for the hospital, said quiz member Barry Chapman.
Initially the quiz was based at the Woodman pub, but moved to the Pear Tree, in the Market Place, about 20 years ago. The quizzes are held every Tuesday, starting at about 9.30pm, and are open to all-comers. They are free to enter, with money from a raffle during the event collected towards the charity fund.
Prizes are provided by Pear Tree landlord and landlady Simon and Anne Rawson.
On Thursday, May 12, the latest cheque was handed over to staff at the hospital, with the money going into the general equipment fund. Landlord Mr Rawson went along with Mr Chapman to hand over the cash, collected during the past year.
Mr Chapman thanked all those who take part for helping raise the cash, especially the Rawsons for providing the prizes for the raffle.
