Pure relaxation at top notch spa

Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Thermal Spa ticks every box for a truly indulgent, relaxing break.

The spa, located in picturesque Leicestershire countryside, is very popular and after spending two days there I could see why.

As well as having superb facilities, it offers pure relaxation and ‘me’ time.

From the minute you walk in, you are made to feel to so welcome. Not only are the staff friendly, but they manage to create an informal, relaxing atmosphere.

The spa boasts 50 treatment rooms, a 25m swimming pool, whirlpools, and even a designated relaxation room with mattresses and blankets to help you nod off.

But for me, the thermal spa had to be the highlight.

Offering beautiful waterfall pools weaving inside and out and heat treatment rooms such as the colour flow cave and volcanic salt bath, it was an interesting and elaborate change from the simple sauna and steam room.

Even the showers had that extra special element with several different options including tropical thunderstorm or cold sea spray to rinse away the day.

The best part of the thermal spa had to be the candle pool. It was truly tranquil and offered a calming, almost therapeutic ambience.

In silence, guests are invited to float weightlessly or pick an alcove to rest their head.

The weather was hot during my stay which meant I could make the most of the outdoor space as well as indoor.

A swimming pool surrounded by loungers gave a holiday feel, and there were several garden and terrace areas where I could enjoy a relaxed drink.

There was a lake in the middle of the garden offering a feel of serenity, surrounded by people in swing chairs or deck chairs.

The multi-award winning retreat - which won the best spa in Europe - also comes up trumps when it comes to the treatments.

There’s also an extensive range of treatments to choose from.

You can pop in for a quick manicure, get your hair done or have your eyebrows tidied up.

There’s a wide range of massages on offer and the one I had was the best I have experienced. It was done by a therapist who was clearly highly trained, who even took the time to offer personal skin care advice.

The restaurant was also beautiful and the meals felt more like five star a la carte options than food included in a weekend package deal.

The rooms come complete with luxury products in the bathroom, a television and all the bits and bobs to make tea and coffee.

There’s no fancy in-tub entertainment system or mood lighting, but it continues the calm theme.
