Pupils from Croft Infant School in Alfreton have been digging deep to help create a beautiful new flower bed and vegetable patch at the Avant Homes’ development, Damstead Park.

The children, aged between five and six years old, worked alongside representatives from Avant Homes to plant rhubarb, garlic, onions and a selection of mixed flowers at the housebuilder’s Alfreton development.

The planting took place at The Newton on plot three - one of Damstead Park’s showhomes - which is a modern three-bedroom property with an integral garage.

Avant Homes’ sales and marketing director, Mariana Knight, said: “Alfreton is a close-knit community so we wanted to involve a local school in the project and invite the schoolchildren to plant a selection of vegetables and flowers in the hopes they’ll revisit to see their efforts mature over time.

“We have a lot of families already living in the homes at Damstead Park so we were very excited to have the children of Croft Infant School along for the day.”

She added: “Everyone had a wonderful time helping to transform the patch of land.”

Croft Infants School, located on Marshall Street, is a community school located in Alfreton. It is a primary school for girls and boys aged between five and seven years with a total of 170 pupils.

Helen Godfrey, deputy headteacher at Croft Infant School, said: “We always encourage our pupils to get involved in these kinds of community activities and I know that everyone learned a lot.

“The children had a fantastic time working together and we will all look forward to visiting Damstead Park in the future to see how the plants are doing.”

Damstead Park boasts a collection of three, four and five-bedroom houses at the Each Well Lane site, with prices starting from £224,995.
