SWANWICK villagers are being urged to attend Wednesday’s full Amber Valley Borough Council meeting where a 2,000-name petition against nearby housing developments is to be discussed.
Campaigners in the village are angry over plans to build 500 homes on land between Derby Road and nearby Butterley Reservoir.
The Greenbelt land was designated a possible site for meeting Amber Valley’s house building targets after a series of consultations last year. Now John Briggs, 63, of Derby Road, who is leading the campaign to halt the plans, is urging villagers to attend Wednesday’s Ripley Town Hall meeting to have their say on the matter during the public speaking section.
He said: “There’s been enough development in Swanwick over previous years – it can’t cope with any more because of the infrastructure. The roads and the school are not big enough to cope.”
The Wednesday, January 18 meeting is set to start at 7pm.
