POLICE WARNING: Multiple thefts in Hope Valley

Hope Valley homeowners are being encouraged to secure their sheds and garages following a number of thefts in the area.

On one of the incidents, a resident on Hassop Road, Calver, heard a loud crashing sound outside their home.

As they went to investigate, they saw two teenagers riding off on mountain bikes they had stolen from the shed round the back of the house.

The offenders had forced the shed lock open and taken the two bikes - one white and one grey Boardman model.

One of the youths was described as wearing grey tracksuit bottoms with stripes down the side and a white coloured coat. The second wore navy tracksuit bottoms and a pale coloured jacket with a white hood.

Both were believed to be between 14 and 18-years-old and rode off into the village at around 12.50pm.

Over the last week, sheds and garages have also been targetted in Grindlow, Cannonfields in Hathersage and Jaggers Lane, Hathersage.

Expensive tools including a Stihl chainsaw and strimmer, Macallister hedge trimmer, and a Ryobi strimmer have been taken.

Following the thefts, safer neighbourhood officers will be carrying out increased patrols in the area, as well as offering security advice to homeowners.
