The play areas, on Wilmot Street and Ilkeston Road, are to be painted and have additional play equipment installed.

The bark is also to be replaced with more modern grass matting and new fencing will make the areas larger and more fun for children.

Amber Valley Borough Council’s cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Chris Short, said: “I have visited the sites and seen how much both play areas will benefit from this significant investment.

“Once installed, the play areas will provide free-of-charge fun activities for all age ranges.

“The council has in recent years, invested heavily in developing parks and open spaces, and this is a great way of improving children’s health at the same time.”

On Heanor parent said: “It will be great for youngsters once the areas have had a makeover. It is important for children to have a safe and engaging environment to play in to help them develop and learn to socialise with other children.”
