A 20-year-old Royal Navy recruit from Heanor, has sailed through the first stage of his naval training and is now on course for a career at sea.
Trainee Engineer Technician (Marine Engineering) Adam Asling has now finished ten weeks of intensive training designed to teach recruits the basic skills required by all sailors.
The former Aldercar Community Language College pupil said: “I joined the Navy to better myself, meet new people and for a challenging career. I have thoroughly enjoyed training. The things I have done and the friends I have made make this a strong career choice.”
With the first phase of his training complete Adam will transfer to HMS Sultan, Hampshire, to learn the skills in marine engineering to keep the ship running smoothly. Once qualified he will work on everything from the ship’s hull and engines to its electrical, fuel, hydraulic and fire fighting systems.
