Pinxton charity launches clothing appeal

A VILLAGE charity is appealing for clothing donations in Alfreton and Ripley.

The Pinxton link of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line is due to hold a stall at Alfreton Market Place on Saturday, May 5 and one at Ripley Market Place on Saturday, May 26, for townsfolk to bring along unwanted clothes.

The collected items are due to be handed out to the families of 20 Belarusian children before they arrive in Amber Valley on July 15.

Every year members of charity look after a child from the Eastern European country who ha been affected by the Chernobyl disaster for the summer.

A spokesperson for the Pinxton link said the charity needs all kinds of clothes from Tee shirts and tops to trainers and shoes, even swimwear.

He said: “I’m sure almost every household in Amber Valley has one item of clothing that is outgrown or of no more use to local children.

“If there are clothing factories or shops in the locality who would like to donate used samples or discontinued lines, we would be more than happy to arrange a collection.”
