Person struck by train at Derbyshire station

A police investigation is underway after a person was struck by a train at Alfreton railway station this afternoon.

The incident caused delays that lasted several hours for Northern and East Midlands Train services but both had returned to normal by around 4.00pm.

There has as yet been no word on the condition of the person who was hit or any further details.

National Rail issued a statement shortly after the incident which read: “A person has been hit by a train in the Alfreton area. This is causing disruption to journeys between Sheffield and Nottingham via Alfreton. This is expected to continue until 16:30.

Trains are currently unable to run between Sheffield and Nottingham via Alfreton. Trains will be diverted via Derby where possible.”
