A West Hallam pensioner is preparing to take the leap of a lifetime when she skydives for charity this weekend.
Mary Hudson, 73, is doing the jump to raise money for the Derbyshire , Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
Speaking this week, she said: “I’m not really bothered about it at the moment.
“I’ve got to do it now anyway even if I do get scared.
“I can’t let people down because they’ve been so generous and I’ve had a lot of support from people.”
Mary hosted a garden party on Saturday to kick start the fundraising.
Around 50 people turned out and bought cakes, plants and cream teas as well as sponsoring Mary for the jump.
She added: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m quite looking forward to it.
“I just hope the weather holds and so that the jump can go ahead.
“If it’s bad conditions I will have to postpone.”
Anyone who would like to sponsor Mary can call 0115 9302744.
