Pensioner killed on train tracks between Chesterfield and Derby

Police have confirmed that the person killed after being hit by a Derbyshire train was a pensioner.

Trains were delayed after an incident on railes between Derby and Chesterfield on Monday, May 30, and police were called to Duffield to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

An East Midlands Trains spokeswoman, said: “There has been a person hit by a train at Duffield. This is between Derby and Chesterfield and is disrupting our trains on the Matlock/Derby/Nottingham and London St Pancras/Nottingham/Sheffield routes. 
“British Transport Police and Network Rail are going to investigate the problem."

Now the identity of the man, who was 70-years-old, has been confirmed and his family have been contacted, said police.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to Duffield station shortly after 12.48pm on Monday, 30 May to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Derbyshire Constabulary and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, and a 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
