Patients set to view Easter waiting times online

Patients in need of urgent care over Easter can see at a glance how long they can expect to wait for treatment at Ripley Community Hospital.

Live waiting times for minor injury units at Ripley and Ilkeston Community Hospitals are now shown alongside times for the Royal Derby Hospital’s A&E department and Derby’s urgent care centre.

The handy comparative waiting times, which were introduced last month, are expected to help patients decide the quickest place to seek urgent treatment over the Easter holiday. It is the first time that patients can easily check and compare waiting times at all four centres to decide where to go for care. The continually refreshed data is now shown on websites run by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, Derby Teaching Hospitals and Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

William Jones, chief operating officer for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the minor injury units, said: “This idea has patients at its heart. When someone needs emergency or urgent care they want to access information quickly. Not everyone needs to go to A&E and this helps them see where else help is available.”
