A dedicated mum celebrated nine years of classes for a local music group this month.

Mum Jacqui Davis, who runs Twistin Tots sessions in Ripley, marked the anniversary with her class by wearing fancy dress, dancing, singing and eating cake.

The classes are suitable from birth to pre-school and help young children with speech and language development, co-ordination and co-operation, social skills and movement.

Jacqui founded the musical group when she was pregnant with her second child.

She said: “Little did I know when I started the group that I would still be going strong nine years later.

“The classes were initially a stop-gap to fill my time before my children were at home, but classes have gone from strength to strength and I now operate eleven classes in six locations, have started new classes for different ages and am looking to take on a couple of staff.

“I even have some of the original mums from nine years ago still coming with new siblings – so I must be doing something right!”

At the celebrations, Chloe Wilkinson, three, who was dressed as Elsa (from Disney’s Frozen) and Issabella North, two, who was dressed as Tinkerbell, won prizes for the best fancy dress.

Boys who won prizes included Seth Baldwin, two, who came as a dragon, Matthew Scaife, three, who was a pirate and Graysen Pinto-Anderson, two, who was Fireman Sam.

Chloe’s mum, Amy Cobb, said: “Chloe has been looking forward to this party all week – she was so excited to get the chance to wear her dressing up costume and she loves Twistin Tots anyway.

“To get cake and a prize at her favourite class was her idea of heaven!”

Twistin Tots classes run on Tuesdays in Belper and Fridays in Ripley.

Another class running in Ripley is Twistin Tikes. This is for children ages three to five, covers key requirements for the Early Years Foundation Stage and includes more challenging songs with actions to stimulate older children and keep them entertained, as well as some songs with puppets.

You do not need to book for Twistin Tots or Twistin Tikes classes.

Jacqui will be looking to recruit some staff to start running more classes from September.
