Organisers of the eleventh annual Alfreton Party in the Park have cancelled the event after heavy rainfall made the ground unsafe for big vehicles.
Derbyshire County Council’s emergency planning officers, Amber Valley Borough Council and organisers made a joint decision based on the boggy condition of the ground and more forecasts of rain on Tuesday.
Organiser Liam Connell said any grants would have to be repaid and cash raised through sponsored events would be ploughed into next year’s event. He said: “It’s terrible - it’s like a year’s work down the drain. We don’t want to risk the park with a lot of big heavy lorries.”
This year’s event was due to take place in Sunday and would have featured the Mark Stannage stunt team, Ripley Academy of Dance, as well as the four finalists of the Alfreton Battle of the Bands competition who were set to play on the main stage.
