Number of jobless falls again

The number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in Derbyshire fell again in August, according to figures released this week.

In Derbyshire, not including Derby city, there were 5,894 claimants – 208 fewer than in July and 2,343 fewer than 12 months earlier.

Scott Knowles, Acting Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, said: “That is excellent news, especially as there will have been a cohort of 18-year-olds leaving school this summer.”
