Night of snooker star shots raises cash for roof

SNOOKER stars Nigel Bond and Shaun Murphy raised over £1,500 for Alfreton Park Community Special School’s Let’s Raise the Roof campaign.

On Friday, November 4, Nigel and Shaun put on a display of amazing trick shots and played a doubles match with partners with names drawn from the hat.

A snooker cue signed by 35 top snooker players raised £200 in an auction on the night and earlier in the day Shaun played for some prisoners at a local prison who donated money to the appeal. Raise the Roof has a target of £200,000 to provide a much needed new swimming pool building at the school. The total so far stands at £11,000.

Swimming teacher Margaret Clarke said: “The whole night was a huge success, raising over £1,500.

“Everyone at the school sends a big thank you to those who gave so much for free and who donated. We have been overwhelmed by their generosity. The biggest thank you goes to Nigel and Shaun, without them we wouldn’t have had such a great night.”
