Matlock’s new tourist information point has had a successful first weekend.
The Visitor Information Point (VIP) officially opened over Easter weekend at its new home at Peak Rail.
It relocated there from the old tourist information office in Crown Square following a review of visitor services by the Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Destination Management Partnership.
Shop manager Steve Slinn said: “Lots of people have been coming in and picking up leaflets.
“People are taking notice of all the signs around town pointing to Peak Rail for tourist information and they are coming here.”
Steve said that although the number of people coming into the office had increased his workload slightly it was nothing he couldn’t handle.
“A lot of the help you give people is about pointing them in the right direction,” he said.
The aim is for the VIP service is to take accommodation bookings, offer advice and provide access to on-line content, literature and other reference material.
