Man appears in court charged with murdering Jia Ashton

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with murdering Thorntons’ worker Jia Ashton.

David Simmonds appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court in Derby, where he faced a charge of murdering 25-year-old Jia, who was killed in Sleetmoor Woods, Somercotes, as she walked home from work, on March 10.

Simmonds was remanded in custody until May 26 when he will appear at Nottingham Crown Court.

Jia’s body was found on March 13 close to a path in the wood, which are near the home she charged with her husband, after a huge search.
