Lord is full of praise for supersonic car firm

A MINISTER of State commended a Heanor company on a recent visit to its factory, calling it ‘innovative’ and ‘impressive’.

Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade and Investment toured the Umeco Composites Structural Materials (UCSM) factory on Sinclair Close, on Wednesday, as part of a tour of East Midlands manufacturers. The firm develop and manufacture composite materials for the aerospace industry.

The Lord met with directors and personnel at UCSM’s Technology Centre where work is being carried out on the Bloodhound SSC, a supersonic car that will attempt to break the land speed record in 2013.

He said: “With just a year to go to the 2012 Games, it was fascinating to see sports equipment made up of materials produced at this site. I congratulate UCSM on being one of the sponsors for the project which involves an attempt at the land speed record. This demonstrates the ambition and drive this company has to be involved in such an impressive venture.”
