Local groups awarded thousands in funding

Community groups have benefited from their share of £41,000 of funding.

The cash has been handed out to 48 local clubs by Derbyshire County Council as part of its Community Action Grant Funding.

Among the successful applicants have been the Arkwright Society’s Lumsdale Project, which received £1,000, The British Red Cross, which has been awarded £1,000 for new defibrillators to be used in the Matlock area, and Celebrating Cromford, which received £670.

Little Green Space was given £1,000 for it’s Get Matlock Growing – Allotments for All scheme, Steep Turnpike Church was awarded £870 and Wirksworth Music Centre was given £999.

Cllr Carol Hart, cabinet member for public health, said: “We have some fantastic community groups in Derbyshire who do a lot for their local area, often with very little money, and we’re delighted to support them with our Big Society funding schemes.”
