SWANWICK centenerian Lilian Burt is set to celebrate her 103rd birthday on Saturday.
The mother-of-one grew up in Hammersmith, Ripley, but moved to the village 20 years ago to be closer to her daughter, Pat Carter, 64.
Lilian worked at Arkwright’s cotton mill in Belper, but was forced to leave in her thirties to care for her housebound mother and father. She was once a member of Ripley Riding Club and used to travel the area on a horse and trap.
Now daughter Pat, who cares for her mother at her Shirley Road home said 103-year-old Lilian loves watching Countdown and completing word puzzles. “But she likes nothing more than a good natter,” added Pat.
