A PARTY was thrown last week by traders to celebrate the 85th birthday of Heanor Market Place legend, Rita Knighton.
The party was held at The Market Cafe and organised by Simon Minto, chairman of the Traders Association and owner of the cafe. Rita, of Mayfield Avenue, used to run the sandwich wagon that stood on the Market Place as well as a local cafe.
Simon said: “She comes in every day and tells us a different story about the town. She’s such a nice person - she doesn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. She goes around the town and natters to everyone. She plays a great part in the Traders Association and gives advice to all the new shops!”
