A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of Thornton’s worker Jia Ashton.
David Simmonds, 21, faces a charge of murdering the married 25-year-old from Somercotes. Jia disappeared on March 10 as she walked home from work. Her body was found in nearby woods three days later after a large-scale search.
Simmonds, from Derby Road, Heanor, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court via video link.
No application for bail was made and he was further remanded in custody to appear at the same court on August 30.
