Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, March 1, how Mark Anthony Thraves, 32, of Wellington Street, Matlock, attacked his partner after he believed her updated Facebook profile with a new picture was attracting other men.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said they had both consumed alcohol and she had updated her Facebook profile and when Thraves noticed a new picture he became sullen and when she asked what was wrong he swore at her.

His partner got closer to him, according to Mrs Allsop, and he grabbed her wrists and pushed her to the floor and insulted her.

Mrs Allsop added that the defendant’s partner fled to her brother’s address and the defendant blamed her because she had got other men to like her profile.

Mrs Allsop said: “He had accused her of being unfaithful and they would bicker and he would go through her phone and social media accounts.”

Thraves told police that they had been drinking lager and sharing wine and he explained that he should not have been drinking alcohol because he takes anti-depressants.

He accepted to police that his partner’s Facebook profile had been changed and he can get jealous.

Thraves pleaded guilty to the assault after the incident on October 25, last year.

Defence solicitor Julie Page said Thraves attended the police station as a volunteer and said he could not remember what had happened but accepted that if his partner had said he had assaulted then he must have done so.

Ms Page added that the couple was almost immediately reconciled after the incident and things have improved between them and Thraves has stopped drinking.

Magistrates fined Thraves £300 and ordered him to pay £85 legal costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
