a JACKSDALE shopworker has retired after 45 years’ service.
Staff at the Co-op’s Jacksdale foodstore said farewell to their manager, Janet Hill, who retired on April 27. Janet has been the Manager at the Selston Road store for five years but started her career with the Co-op back in 1966 when she joined a store on Church Street in Eastwood at the age of 15.
Janet said: “The Church Street store was one of the first self-service stores at the time, and up to that point all shops were counter service so that was quite novel. My duties were very straight forward, I had to keep the shop clean and tidy and generally help out. “Over the years, I’ve been able to take advantage of lots of training programmes and worked in all departments which enabled me to work my way up to manager. I’ve been a store manager for 37 years, mainly in Derby, Eastwood and Jacksdale.”
Janet was be treated to a send off by colleagues, friends and family at a party at the Miners Welfare Club in Jacksdale. She said: “I will be looking forward to spending more time with my great nephews and visiting family members in Weymouth.”
