A woman who has lost her dad, aunt and uncle to cancer has decided to give something back and signed up for the Treetops Moonlight Walk.

Helen Newham, 45, lost all three family members in the last ten years, most recently her dad, Mick Atherton, who lost his battle with prostate cancer aged 69 in April.

Helen said: “I don’t want other people to suffer.

“I support cancer charities because it’s affected my family so much.

“I’ve lived in Sandiacre for 15 years so I wanted to support a local charity that helps people like my dad.”

Helen will join hundreds of other women who will walk a seven mile route around Derby to raise cash fro the Risley based charity.

Helen added: “Treetops Hospice is a really good cause.

“They provide expert care for people suffering from terminal illnesses.

“I did the Moonlight Walk last year and it was great fun, so I’m really looking forward to it this year.”

The walk, takes place tomorrow but registration is still open.
