Heanor school children design and plant WW1 flowerbed

Students and members of staff of Mundy Junior School, Heanor, planted a flowerbed in Heanor Memorial Park on Friday 4th July to mark the centenary of WWI.

They had been invited to design the flowerbed by Amber Valley Borough Council earlier in the year and the
winning layout was drawn by Alyce Taylor aged 10, showing a poppy at the centre surrounded by the Union Flag.

The flowerbed is just one of the things the school has been doing for the local community this year. On Saturday 14th June the school held its first Horticultural Show and produced some brilliantly themed garden designs, which have been replanted within the local community.
