A mum-of-two from Kilburn is having her head shaved to raise cash for Help for Heroes after her brother was injured in Afghanistan.
Zoe-Leanne Parkin’s brother Luke was hit by shrapnel in a grenade attack in October in ????
Luke, a sergeant in the Grenadier Guards, escaped with gashed ribs but one of his friends died and another lost his legs in the blast.
Zoe-Leanne, 39, said: “He was one of the lucky ones fortunately. You go out there expecting the worst I think. And before you go you tell your family what you want at the funeral. They are very brave.
“My mother’s got a heart condition so she didn’t get the message - it was a bit of a shock and you don’t know what the details are.”
Zoe-Leanne will have her 24-inch long hair, which reaches down to her waist, shorn at Sarah Hawkins Hairdressing on Ripley Marketplace at 1pm on May 4.
“People know my hair is quite precious to me. No one like can imagine what it would look like. I thought people would more inclined to sponsor if they knew it was something I was going to miss.”
