Green-fingered residents from the Ripley and Heanor areas have reaped the rewards of keeping their gardens well-tended after being named the winners of a competition run by Amber Valley Housing.
Best Individual Garden went to Martyn and Janet Gration, from Heanor, while Michael Green, from Ripley picked up Best Pot or Basket. Best Communal Garden went to Linda Stevens, from Belper, and Colin Hicklin from Heanor won Best Edible Garden.
Each winner received a certificate and gardening vouchers and second and third prizes were also awarded in each category.
Martyn and Janet Gration lived in a flat for 10 years before moving to their bungalow. Janet said: “Having a space outdoors was like a dream come true, and we soon became keen gardeners.
“We like to dot pots and hanging baskets around the garden.”
