Funds from the bonfire

funds raised at a community bonfire in Codnor were distributed among Scouts and the emergency services.

The chairman of Codnor Parish Council, councillor George Parkes, gave £147 each to the Third Codnor Scout Group, Derbyshire Special Constabulary, Beauchief Explorer Scouts, Derbyshire Fire Service and the St John’s Ambulance Service before the February meeting.

Cllr Parkes said: “The community bonfire and firework display last November has grown over the years and last year’s was attended by over 3,300 people.

“We greatly value all the help and support that these groups provide to make such a successful evening for everyone. We are very grateful to them for their expertise and contribution - may it continue for future years and I hope that these awards help in a small way to benefit their funds.”
