Funding available to Ripley and Heanor’s clubs

SPORTS clubs and community groups in Ripley and Heanor could be in with a chance of a cash boost, courtesy of a £50 million fund.

Hundreds of local sports clubs and facilities in the East Midlands could be upgraded in the initiative launched by Sport England and the Minister for Sport and the Olympics, MP Hugh Robertson. Any sports group in the East Midlands can apply to The Inspired Facilities for funds to pay for a range of improvements, from sprung floors to new floodlights.

Hugh Robertson said: “This £50 million fund is a huge boost to community sport. It will transform local sports facilities up and down the country.”

Sport England say spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. For successful applicants, there is also the opportunity to make use of a group of pre-appointed contractors who can do the work without the need for a lengthy procurement process. Investment will be available to breathe new life into tired facilities that can be unattractive to sports participants, expensive to run and difficult to maintain, putting these clubs right back at the heart of their local communities. There will also be money available to convert existing buildings into venues that are suitable for grassroots sport.
