Four arrested during drugs crackdown in Chesterfield and Amber Valley

A passive drugs dog was used to check for illegal substances as a policing team visted pubs, clubs and bars across the area.

A 29-year-old man was stopped on High Street, Alfreton, and arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis while a 27-year-old man was arrested on Grosvenor Road, Ripley, on suspicion of possessing cocaine. Both have been questioned and released on bail while inquiries continue.

Officers also arrested a 46-year-old man on Corporation Street, Chesterfield, on suspicion of possessing cocaine, while a 23-year-old man was arrested on Grosvenor Road, Ripley, on suspicion of the same offence. Both men have been given a caution.

The operation was carried out on the evening of Saturday, February 27.

Licensing Sergeant Nick Booth said: “We are committed to addressing illegal drug use in the night time economy across the division. There is a proven connection between drug use and violent behaviour and it will not be tolerated.

“We want people to people to visit our towns and enjoy a safe night out. I hope this operation shows that we will take action against those who think it’s acceptable to bring drugs into our pubs, clubs and bars.”
