Foundation status given to health trust

Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust has become one of the country’s first specialist providers of community–based health services to achieve NHS foundation trust status.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Monitor, the independent regulator of foundation trusts in England, and marks a new era for community health services in Derbyshire boosting local accountability and public involvement in community healthcare.

Chairman Prem Singh, speaking directly after the announcement that Derbyshire will be a foundation trust from November 1, said: “We are delighted to be named one of the first specialist community foundation trusts in the country.

“It is testament to the quality of services our committed staff provide for local people.

“It confirms that we are a well-led and well-governed organisation, the status also brings with it lots of other benefits, most notably giving the public a greater say in the running and planning of our services.”
