‘A silent majority’ of Ripley folk could be in favour of a Morrisons store in the town according to a former Amber Valley mayor.

Long serving Ripley councillor Ron Ashton believes town centre trade will die if a multi-million pound new superstore is not built on Nottingham Road.

He chose to speak out this week in reaction to news that a petition against the Gateway scheme, started by Labour town councillor Roland Emmas Williams, gathered 2,338 names.
