Fire crews extinguish ground floor blaze at a home

Firefighters armed with hose reel jets and breathing apparatus extinguished a blaze in the ground floor of a semi-detached property.

The fire was reported about 6.50pm, on Saturday, March 4, on Whitely Avenue, Cotmanhay.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The ground floor of the semi-detached property was well alight and two crews were called out from Ilkeston.

“Crews used a breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet and this was increased to four breathing apparatus users with two hose reel jets.”

The fire service confirmed the blaze was extinguished by 7.11pm and crew damped down and ventilated the property before making it safe by 7.48pm.

The fire service was unable to confirm the cause of the fire but it is thought no one was injured during the incident.
