Extra time for footy training

Football fans enjoyed a fundraising event in Langley Mill to stop training sessions from being left on the bench in autumn.

The free event at Aldercar Community and Language College School ran last Thursday, August 11 and included a charity five-a-side tournament, children’s ball skills, training sessions and family competitions.

All proceeds will go towards funding weekly football sessions for seven to 19-year-olds, which have been running at the school every week since November last year.

A charity raffle even saw iPods and tickets to Alfreton Town Football Club up for grabs. The event, hosted by Amber Valley Housing in partnership with Derbyshire Constabulary’s Langley Mill Safer Neighbourhood Team and funded by contractor Lovell, the event was designed to raise the money to keep training sessions going for the next six months.

Jennifer Lorimer, from the Langley Mill Safety Partnership, said: “Providing boys and girls with a safe environment where they can play sport means they can put their energy into something positive.”
