The winners of a £45m Euromillions jackpot plan to trade their £90k Stapleford home for a £5m dream home after submitting a planning application.
Matt and Cassey Topham matched all five numbers and two Lucky Stars to scoop the fortune in February 2012.
They have now submitted a planning application for a state-of-the-art eco home which will include eight bedrooms and a grotto style swimming pool.
The house will be built in Adams Hill, off Derby Road, bordering Woollaton Park.
The couple, who are fans of TV show Grand Designs, said at the time of their win that they would use some of their massive fortune to build their own home.
They said: “Must-haves included five bedrooms, a dramatic sweeping staircase, a large garage and a grotto-style pool.
“We also spent a lot of time debating with the architect how the rooms would be used and the split between open plan and entertaining spaces versus cosy, snug rooms.
“We were very clear we didn’t want to live in a glass box. At the very top of our wish list was a strong desire to keep the design contemporary yet familiar, and flexible enough to accommodate a future family.”
The application, which will be discussed by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee later this year, is for permission to demolish an existing 1930s mansion and replace it with the four-hubbed home.
A statement from architects Baca said: “We are hoping the house, titled Serenity, will push the boundaries of environmental and architectural design. Replacing the drawing room, parlour, ballroom and smoking room of yesteryear the new house will be bang-up-to-date with a home cinema, games room, swimming pool and gym.”
