A PICTURESQUE wildflower meadow is to be planted around the Somercotes Winding Wheel.

The village’s parish council has commissioned Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire to create an ‘urban wildflower meadow’ along the grassed area of the mining monument on Nottingham Road. All of the work will be carried out during summer and early autumn.

The flowers, such as poppies, cornflowers and buttercups should be in bloom for summer 2013 and require little maintenance. A Groundwork spokesperson said it will result in a ‘fabulous display year-on-year’.
