a NEW library at a Selston primary school was opened by a poet last week.
Retford-based bard Paul Cookson opened the new library at Holly Hill Primary School on Friday and spent the day reading out his own poems and writing new ones with the pupils.
The library, which was formerly a dining hall, cost around £10,000 to transform and now contains another £10,000 worth of books.
Literacy co-ordinator Tia Watson said: The children will start borrowing books this week using Junior Librarian - a computer system that catalogues the books and allows them to borrow books using a digital scanner. They will be acting as their own librarians and we hope that older kids will help and supervise them.”
An after-school club for children aged five to seven starts this week which will show them how to use the library and have contact with books.
