Eastwood man arrested at Gatwick Airport over fly-tipping incident in Codnor

A warrant for the arrest of John Pollard was issued because of his failure to attend court on a previous occasion without giving reasons to the court.

He was convicted at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court of an offence under The Environmental Protection Act 1990 for failing in his duty of care as an occupier of domestic premises to ensure disposal of waste is only to an authorised person.

Mr Pollard stated he had paid someone to remove the waste from his address but failed to check if they had a waste carrier’s license.

He was fined £125 and ordered to pay a Victim Surcharge of £30 and costs of £552.50 – totalling £707.50. The fly-tipping incident occurred on Castle Lane.

Amber Valley Borough Council Portfolio holder for Environment Cllr Chris Short, commented: "The council takes fly-tipping incidents very seriously and we will use all available resources to ensure those responsible are prosecuted. Such incidents not only cost the Council a great deal of money cleaning up but have a detrimental effect on local residents and the environment.”
