Drug-user smoked cannabis after claiming she was being terrorised by yobs

A cannabis user was caught with the drug after she claimed she had been smoking it to stay calm while she was being terrorised by yobs.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, March 28, how Pamela Salomoni, 51, of Hogshaw Drive, Buxton, was caught with 5.4grammes of the class B drug when they visited her home concerning another matter.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Police visited her home for an unrelated matter and during a search of premises police recovered 5.4grammes of cannabis worth £45.

“She had a spliff and she had been smoking the drug prior to the arrival of police to her home.

“She was using it because of mayhem and because she felt she was being terrorised by a group of kids and she said when she gets ‘stoned’ this quells her anger.”

Salomoni, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing the 5.4grammes of cannabis after the incident on March 2.

Defence solicitor John Wilford said: “She is of previous good character and it was drugs for her own personal use.

“The matter being initially investigated by police was nothing to do with her and the background is that she was being terrorised by a number of youths.

“She felt harangued and she started smoking cannabis because she felt it calmed her down but she has stopped smoking altogether now.”

Magistrates sentenced Salomoni to a 12 month conditional discharge but warned her that if she re-offends in the next year she will be re-sentenced for the drugs offence.

The defendant was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
