Derbyshire woman dies after A50 smash

A 35-year-old woman from Derbyshire died yesterday after the car in which she was travelling was involved in a collision on the A50 in Staffordshire.

The woman was a passenger in a blue Volvo C70 travelling towards Uttoxeter which collided with a white Volvo articulated lorry at around 9.05am.

As a result of the crash she sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 42-year-old man who is also from Derbyshire, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.

The rear seat passenger, an eight-year-old boy, was uninjured.

The occupant of the lorry, a 52-year-old man, was also uninjured.

The woman’s family have been traced and informed of her death.

They are being offered support by specially trained family liaison officers.

The road remained closed until around 12.50pm while officers from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit carried out a detailed investigation at the scene.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 123 of April 4.
