Warning over Olympics £525,000 lottery scam

DERBYSHIRE folk are being warned not to respond to a scam letter which claims they’ve won a £525,000 prize in an Olympic lottery draw.

The council’s trading standards team has received complaints about a speculative letter attempting to gain people’s personal details.

It claims to be from the ‘2012 Summer Olympic Lottery’ and tells the recipient they have won a share of a £105 million prize pot.

The letter asks them to return a form completed with their personal details to unlock the prize.

Councillor Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “This is a variation on a common lottery scam theme with criminals seeing the Olympics as an opportunity to con people.

“As always the message is that if something looks too good to be true it probably is.”

The letters, which claim to originate from Spain, have been sent to people across the UK. Anyone receiving one of the letters should report it on 08454 040506.
