Police in Ripley have launched a crackdown on shoplifters.

Officers are carrying out high visibility and plain clothes patrols in the town in a bid to deter thieves and catch shoplifters in the act.

PC Rich Marshall said: “Together with local shopkeepers we are working hard to prevent and detect offences of shoplifting in our town.

“We will be asking members of the public to help us identify people we would like to speak to in connection with thefts by sharing CCTV images on the Caught on Camera section of the force website.

“By working together we can catch those responsible for shoplifting in our town and bring them to justice for the crimes they have committed.”

Police recently arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man in connection with a series of thefts at the Cooperative Store on Maple Avenue in Ripley. They have since been bailed pending further investigations.
