Raiders broke into a building site in South Normanton to take thousands of pounds worth of power tools, including a ‘whacker’ and laser level.

Offenders had removed a front gate from its hinges at the Ball Hill site and smashed a padlock on a storage container to take the items.

The offence could have happened anytime between December 20 and January 2, police say, as the site was closed over Christmas.

Workers at the Taylor Wimpey development, to be known as Weavers Gardens, only discovered the items had been taken when they returned to work on Thursday.
